About Manukan Island

Manukan Island is the second largest island in the Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park, Malaysia's first marine national park. It is located in the East Malaysian state of Sabah, just off the coast of Kota Kinabalu and is easily accessible by boat.
Manukan is the most popular island with Kota Kinabalu residents. Manukan has some good stretches of beaches on the southern coastline. The best beach is on the eastern tip of the island. Offshore of Manukan are coral reefs, which is ideal for snorkeling, diving and swimming.
Out of the 5 islands making up Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park, Manukan features the most developed tourist facilities that includes 20 units of chalets, a clubhouse, and few restaurants and a diving centre. Recreation facilities include a swimming pool, football field, Volleyball and Sepak Takraw courts. Infrastructural facilities include support-water, electricity, desalination plant, sewerage system, and even a solar public telephone. It is covered in dense vegetation and has hiking trails.
Jesselton Point Ferry Terminal in downtown Kota Kinabalu is the ferry terminal for those heading to the islands in Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park. This ferry terminal is also the departure point for patrons staying at the Manukan Island Resort

Attractions :

While the beach fronting the resort is not as spectacular as the one in Pulau Sapi, the underwater marine life that you can see from snorkeling is simply amazing. For a real beach treat, you may need to take a short boat trip to the beach in Pulau Sapi.

Other islands in the marine park are not a bad option either. You may opt to do an island-hopping trip to Pulau Sulug, Pulau Gaya as well as Pulau Mamutik.

Manukan Island Resort

LOCATION: Manukan Island Resort, operated by Sutera Sanctuary Lodges, is located on Pulau Manukan in Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. Access is from the jetty at Sabah Port Authority in downtown Kota Kinabalu, a few minutes away from Hyatt Regency Kinabalu. Boat journey takes about 20 minutes to the island. The resort offers 4 different types of accommodation, namely Hilltop Lodge 1-storey bungalow (4 units), Hilltop Lodge split-level (6 units), Beach Lodge 1-storey bungalow (4 units) and Beach Lodge split-level (6 units). Obviously, the 1-storey bungalows are significantly bigger, offering 2 bedrooms, dining and living areas. All units are equipped with air-conditioner, attached bathroom and TV. There is only one restaurant in the resort offering regular meal selections. It seemed to be frequented by both resort patrons as well as day-trippers to Pulau Manukan. There is also a water sports centre which will take care of your outdoor activity needs such as snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, etc. The rooms here do come at a premium, perhaps due to the seclusion it offers. Not to mention the units are generally well-appointed with plush finishes and modern amenities. The bungalow-type Hill Lodge costs RM380 per night, split-level Hill Lodge (RM320 per night), bungalow-type Beach Lodge (RM380 per night) and split-level Beach Lodge (RM320 per night).
